"Marshall, Will and Holly, On a routine expedition..."

My friend and I tried to go see "Pretty Persuasion" because we really feel that we don't have enough work to do and need a way to fill up our hours.

Unfortunately, the start time was listed incorrectly, so after the forty-minute incredibly confusing subway ride there, we couldn't get in to see the film. Fortunately, we were on the East Side, just near the Bowery Poetry Club, so we thought we'd go there to have a drink and a chat.

Turns out there was a jazz band playing, which put a kibosh on the chat. They were really good; a very large band mostly made up of horns. Half-way through they played a piece which excerpted audio from the old kids TV show, "Land of the Lost". They also did a bit where they all talked to each other and threw things across the stage at each other. It was like they were supposed to be warming up, only it was well into the show, and it was odd seeing all those people just sit and stare at this fake warm-up. (Underneath the casual, talking sounds the various instruments, seemingly casually, were actually building up to something cohesive and loud.) It was a bit like seventh-grade band practice. I kept expecting the conductor, who also played trumpet, to stand up and shout, "Stop! Stop! You're drilling a hole into my soul! Oh, God, why did I ever take this job?!" and run out tearing at his hair.
