dreamy
The Turkey-Switzerland game today was the stuff of dreams. Football is not a high-scoring game; if it's the 85th minute and the score is still 1-1 it's not unreasonable to start discussing the possibilities for the next game. That's not to say that eleventh-hour miracle goals don't happen, just that they're rare. Of course one still prays for them, if one is the praying type (or, when one's chosen team is involved, even when one isn't the praying type) but one generally does so without the expectation of being heard.
And today? Turkey scored to win in extra time. It was thrilling, terrifying - touching, even.
The Turkey-Czech game on Sunday becomes one of supreme importance: whoever wins it goes through to the quarter-finals. I'll be watching, sitting on my hands so I don't bite my nails, trying and failing to shout encouragement to the Turks since I can't quite pronounce their names. Will you?
